The Durham Museum’s Digital Learning Program Wins Pinnacle Award

For the second year in a row, The Durham Museum’s Virtual Field Trip program is the recipient of the prestigious Pinnacle Award. The award, which is presented by the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC), recognizes excellence in creating live virtual field trip content that is professionally delivered.

Coordinated through the museum’s Education Services Department, the Virtual Field Trip program enables classrooms near and far to connect with The Durham Museum in Omaha for a virtual tour of popular museum exhibitions, much like what onsite field trip students experience. Programs, such as “All Aboard” and “Omaha’s World Fair,” aim to inspire young learners by showcasing history and the museum’s collection in an engaging way while also offering teachers a resource that’s aligned with their standards of learning.

“The Durham Museum is honored to receive the distinguished Pinnacle Award for the 2023-24 school year,” said Dawn Myron, Director of Communications. “Education is such a key part of our mission and this honor is a tribute to our dedicated team of educators who provide a wonderful experience for students, no matter where their classroom is located.”

Each year, content providers from around the world are recognized by the CILC for their “Programs of Distinction” determined by the outstanding ratings they received on evaluations submitted by the educators and activity directors. Award winners – representing museums, zoos, aquariums, national parks, halls of fame, science, historical, and cultural centers – stand out as providing programming with exceptional educational value and that actively engaging learners.

The Durham Museum has been a recipient of the award five times and received one honorable mention. To learn more about The Durham Museum’s digital learning programs, please visit www.DurhamMuseum.org/digital-learning. For more information on the CILC Pinnacle Award, visit www.cilc.org/pinnacle.
