Durham Museum presents “George Washington” to over 3,000 area students

In celebration of Constitution Day, The Durham Museum is proud to present “George Washington” as portrayed by historical biographer, Carl Closs.  Closs is a former educator and business executive who has dedicated his retirement since 1997 toward helping children and adults discover the real George Washington. His portrayal goes a lot deeper than simply dressing in a buff and blue uniform. Carl has spent countless hours poring through the General’s original writings, allowing him to communicate little known, instructive facts. Closs utilizes his experiences as a soldier, educator, business executive and Washingtonian scholar to skillfully draw strong parallels between the way Washington responded to difficult challenges and situations all of us face.

“George Washington” will be presented to over 3,000 area students as part of The Durham Museum’s Scholars in Residence Program. The Durham Scholars in Residence initiative is an educational outreach program developed to promote academic enrichment in area schools and community organizations for all age levels.  The Durham Scholars in Residence program provides support to curriculum as well as current topics of local and national interest.  The Scholars in Residence Education Series is sponsored by Carol Gendler, the Sunny Durham Family Foundation, Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Memorial Foundation, the Adah and Leon Millard Foundation and the A. Cydog Charitable Trust.

The media is invited to attend any or all of the performances.  Please call Jessica Brummer, Director of Marketing at Public Relations at The Durham Museum if you plan to attend so schedules can be coordinated with the school principals.
