Big Boy steam engine

Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy steam locomotive is making its way through the nation’s Heartland for the “Heartland of America Tour,” an eight-week journey crossing nine states, including Nebraska. At 132 feet long and 1.2 million pounds – and originally built to haul heavy freight over mountain passes during World War II – it’s the world’s largest steam engine. And a sight to behold!

When can I see Big Boy in Omaha?
According to Union Pacific’s website, Big Boy is expected to arrive on Monday, September 2, near 9th and Leavenworth streets (south of The Durham Museum) at approximately 2:45PM and will depart the area at 4:45PM.

Is The Durham Museum open Monday, September 2?
The museum will be CLOSED to the general public on September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Can I park at The Durham Museum on Monday?
Yes! Though the museum will be closed, The Durham’s upper-level lot (access from 10th Street) and lower-level garage will be open to guests wanting to park near the Big Boy tour stop. Parking is free.
